Day 3: Praying for Christians to Be Involved in Politics
God’s people are the light of the world. Therefore, while we pray for our nation, we need to pray for God’s people in Austria to rise up and bless our nation.
“Blessing your nation” doesn’t mean that we should simply speak nice words about the country in which we live. No, “being a blessing” is an activity; it requires active and purposeful involvement. And what is the best way to bless any nation? By being salt and light—a city set on a hill that cannot be (and refuses to be) hidden.
God has always ordained His people into politics:
He chose David to be King of Israel.
He chose Moses to confront Pharaoh and lead His people, Israel, out of bondage.
He chose the prophets and the apostles and commanded them to testify before kings and prophesy to kings.
The Scriptures clearly show that God desires His people to be actively involved in the affairs of nations. We, the people of God, are a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden. We are to let our light so shine before men that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in Heaven. And THAT is how true peace comes: when we shine our light so brightly that even nations return to Christ because of our witness in every sphere.
Pray along these lines:
Pray for individuals whom God is calling into politics to answer that call.
Pray for Christians to get involved in civic duties, so they witness for Jesus in those spaces.
Pray for Christians to be loud and vocal in the public arena.
Ask the Lord to give His people an undefeatable wisdom, that we would always know how to speak with wisdom that cannot be denied, covered up, or refuted.
Scripture Reference:
PROVERBS 11:11
Through the blessing of the upright, a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked, it is destroyed.
MATTHEW 5: 14-16
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Sample Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You today in Jesus’ name. Father God, thank You for hearing and answering my prayer. Thank You that Your eye is on the sparrow, and You hear every cry of my heart. I praise You for Your mercy and grace that You have shown both toward me and toward Austria.
So Father, today I ask for Christians to rise up in this nation and proclaim Your truth in political spheres:
I pray that You would give us influence and boldness to speak as we ought to speak.
I ask that You would call godly people into political office, that You would fund their campaigns, that You would help people vote them in, and that You would actually place them into active service in each political seat.
I pray that You would give Your people influence for You
Father, I pray that we, as Christians, would get involved in civic duties at every level:
I pray that we would attend council meetings and assemblies, and that we would make our voices heard there.
I pray that Christians would have a strong voice in our school systems.
I pray that every one of Your people would vote according to Your Word, and that each person’s vote would be protected.
Father, Psalm 75 says that You are the One who raises up kings and brings them down.
Therefore, I pray that You would raise each of us, Your people, up to become involved in politics. Let us be vocal, persistent, persuasive, and influential. Help us defend righteousness.
Let us defend the cause of the helpless, the innocent, the preborn, the orphan, the widow, and the fatherless, Lord. Let us speak Your truths in every arena, and raise us up to be a blessing to our nation. Thank You, Heavenly Father. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
